Bitzy!
Assistant general manager Mike Santos confirmed that the Panthers wouldn’t make contractual offers to restricted free agents Byron Bitz(notes) and Steve Bernier(notes), allowing them to become free agents. The Panthers got Bitz at the 2010 trade deadline from Boston for Dennis Seidenberg(notes). Bitz played in just seven games before getting hurt; he missed the entire 2010-11 season after having sports hernia surgery.
So anyone else think we should bring Byron back into the fold? I certainly wouldn't be against it, even if only for more 'We want Bitz' chants...

I thought that Bitz showed potential when he was with the Bruins. I didn’t watch a lot of Panther’s hockey this past season, so I don’t know how he played, but if he can’t make it on the Panthers, I am thinking it was not good. Wouldn’t mind adding him as a depth player for Providence, but not sure he should get a 1 way contract.
He didn’t play all of last season as the quote states. Had 7 games for Florida two years ago before getting injured and then was recovering from surgery for the following season.

Had 1-1-2 in those 7 games for Florida.

my bad there. still, if Florida doesn’t want him…..
but like I said, I wouldnt mind him down on the farm.
Agreed. Smart player, good hockey IQ and a big body who has some familiarity with the system. Definitely worth a 2-way and a shot at the 4th line and injury replacement.

Yes for Providence. No for Boston. I liked the way he fit in the minor league system though, for sure.

I agree with this statement. Though it was really awesome that he got 2 goals that one time, I think Shawn Thornton fits that “crowd goes absolutely nuts when he scores” thing and is a better player as well.

No. lol I never understood the fascination with Bitz. He wasn’t all that talented and usually got smoked every time he dropped the gloves. Do not want.
How can any sane person think BB would be useful here?
And the only memorable thing about him to most of you is that he was a gawk who got beat down (often!) and the chant? A chia pet to go on PC’s desk would be more useful.
Awful. Just…no. Please go now.
Go away. Far away. And stay away.
For Horton!
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take- Wayne Gretzky's dad
Actually, I remember him being one of the few players who actually showed up for Carolina Game 7 and scoring a goal. Also remember having 1-1-2 in 5 playoffs games that year… very solid for a depth guy and better than the far more talented Blake Wheeler.
Guy would be a good depth player and was reported to have a high hockey IQ. Certainly wouldn’t hurt to have on a 2-way contract.
But obviously you know far more about hockey than this humble insane idiot…

Leave it be...
We already have enough role guys on this team right now and want to give our younger guys a chance…the only way I would sign him is if he stay on the baby B’s all year. I dont need to see him in the NHL again unless he somehow picked up some talen on the IR
They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!
