Cammalleri Reportedly Traded to Calgary
Not much more to say at this point. No idea what the return is, or if that's even where he's going.

OMIGOD IT WAS ALL TRUE. EVERYTHING THEY TOLD ME WAS TRUE.
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired former Flame center Michael Cammalleri, goaltender Karri Ramo and a 5th round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forwards Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and a 2nd pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

anyone else feel it's weird...
…when a player gets traded from a team and then back to them??? i does. for certain. once you’re done with a team, you should be done. and never return. unless you are miroslav satan in which case you should def come back to bahstin just so we can make Satan jokes constantly.
Carry On.
it is odd, but here's an example -
The Bruins sent Glen Murray to Pittsburgh, I think for Stevens and McEachern (waaaaste), and then he went to LA soon afterward… they also traded Stumpel to LA for Khristich and Dafoe… then they traded Eloranta and Allison for Stumpel and Murray.
But when you think about it, needs change… could need a D today, and then one of your prospects matures, a winger gets hurt or retired, and whoosh, you need a winger instead.
Kick his ass, Seabass!

Rene Bourque is the main piece. Definitely a lesser return.
They do buy some cap relief… Cami had 3 more years at 6 per while Rene has 5 more at 3.33

Patrick Holland
Can’t get access to hockeydb right now but from what I can tell he was a 7th round pick last season. So in other words, a nobody.

goalies are usually drafted lower than forwards/d, yes/no?

Haven’t the slightest idea. More 1st rounders seem to go to skaters but that has a lot to do with the sheer numbers involved (9 to 1 ratio).
Holland is a forward though so not sure the relevance…

I’d rather keep Camo. I’m sure all the douchiness in Montreal had a lot to do with this move. Of course, his cap hit hurts, especially when you already are paying dead weight like Gomez, who nobody will take.

Wanted to fill their quotient of cheap-shot artists?

ha ha ha…quite possible. Montreal seems to like to make big deals out of nothing really. BUT what you said reminded me of the internal knee-jerk hissy fit I had EVERY TIME I saw the NHL 12 ad touting their Legends League…Ray Bourque as a FLYER? NOOOOOOOOO…….

Blasphemy of the highest order right there.
It prevented me from buying the game.
He’s always a Bruin, and occasionally an Av if I’m in a good mood.

Yes. It’s their Bourque jealousy/trolling, undoubtedly.

no because we demand a six goal min.

I was saying this move is an attempt by Montreal to fall farther down the standings to get the first pick and draft Nail Yakupov…

I don’t know, Columbus is like 12 points behind them. Big jump… or fall

I can see his nose growing!
Gauthier says they wanted to add size up front and get those tougher goals. Says Cammalleri’s comments did not expedite trade.

Another tweet:
One NHL GM when told of the trade, said he wished he knew Cammalleri was available. Would have made an offer.
Man, this reminds me of another completely insane trade that happened a few years ago…

Remind me of which trade you're talking about.

And who would we have gotten instead of Sturmface, Keith's Less Good Brother and Stuart.

You’d have to ask Mikey O’Connell… we will never know since he didn’t bother telling the league he was on the block.

I actually really liked Wayne Primeau when he was on the B’s. Like, really.
The trade was horribad tho.

I don’t think that Montreal’s getting anything here that’s going to make their team better, not this year and not in the near future. The team needs a gigantic overhaul, and it needs to start in the front office, which is too weak-willed to put together a team that can compete in its division.
The real question for me at this point – and I know they’ve battled injuries and Gionta was never really healthy this year and Gomez is way overvalued by the franchise, but I digress – is which season is more indicative of what we can expect from Montreal the next three or four seasons, this season or last?
To me, it’s this season. Not saying last year was an anomaly, but now that teams know how to play Subban and beat Price and know that you can push Montreal around, they’re not having any trouble doing just that.
Really, the Canadiens don’t look much different than the Red Sox did three months ago or the (football) Jets have looked lately. When the front office is an insecure, backpedaling mess, it infects the rest of the team.
The only thing they gain is some cap flexibility. That is it. Ramos and Holland are spare parts… one is in the KHL and the other is a 7th round pick.

It’s almost more fun to give sympathy though… makes them that more depressed about the trade. If Boston fans are nice over it you just KNOW its a horrid move.

Other follies include acquiring the over-valued Tomas Kaberle, and trading elite goal scorer/fan favourite Michael Cammalleri in the middle of a game for Calgary’s Rene Bourque, in what seems to be a very lop-sided trade in terms of skill. 8 What happens next for this team in turmoil remains to be seen.
From the Wikipedia entry of Pierre Gauthier. Oh…this is gonna be good…
This trade amuses me...
You have the handful of delusional Habs fans who are calling this a great move and praising Bourque’s size and calling Cammi selfish.
Then you have the rest of the fanbase that is practically on suicide watch over it…
