Horton Day to Day with "Mild Concussion"
From our friends at SB Nation Boston, in case you didn't see the story there. Horton is doubtful for tomorrow night's game against the Capitals.

My bad. I thought some actual, you know “hockey news” might be more valuable than a hockey player’s opinion on the size of government.

I asked a neurologist that I am working with for my concussion rehab project about Horton and told him about Horty’s situation and he said that he would sit him for a month and go from there.
I think I saw you say something about this before. School project, right? So, do you have any links on the type of mental exercises folks do when they have a concussion? Or any stuff like that?
I have a million links to research articles....here is a good video. If you think it's a good idea, I can do a fanpost on it with all the links
couldn’t get the video, don’t know if that’s on my end or what. Hands-on goes a long way in helping me to understand/learn. Saying that, are there any tests that the general public could look at to see what these guys might have to deal with after diagnosis? Like, Crosby is being reevaluated in Cali. What are they doing to reevaluate? Is there any pen to paper tests or tests using computers that I could access for my own observations?
Its the middle part of the timeline from initial event to clearance that I’m missing. As far as making a fanpost, that’s up to you. The only thing I’ll say is ‘I have a million links’ to ‘fanpost with all the links’ sounds intimidating. So if you were to create something for everyone to check out, I’d suggest things that you think will hold peoples interest.
Also, does the NHL require entrance tests for players? I’ve spent time as a welder and had to take entrance tests for exposure limits. Do players that start at level A, and finish the season at level C get extra attention/scrutiny? Kinda like a predictor for future problems? Does this even make sense?

Hate that he has been put back in this position because of another cheapshot. At least they can sit him against the Caps and then he has the whole AS break for R&R. Plus, the first few games after the break are at home, so not having to travel results in more rest for him. Hope he is alright.
Keep Calm and Tim Tom
For sure. If he takes tomorrow off and maybe a game or two after the ASG, hopefullu he can get back to ‘normal’.

question for someone more knowledgable (so…almost anyone)…can you ever get back to 100% after a concussion?? and after multiple concussions, does your “100%” become what used to be your “90%” and then what used to be your “80%” and so forth?? curious.
Carry On.
I’m better at hockey now than when I first got my concussion…(could be cause I wasn’t very good at hockey) but honestly, I couldn’t tell you for sure that this is concussion related, but my memory has had bigger blanks (remembering names I know well) and feeling nauseous after 10 minutes playing on an ipod or whatever. (And yet I can play computer for hours on end with no trouble). I definitely think it has affected me, but I haven’t done any of those tests to try to figure out what a baseline or normal should or shouldn’t be. Doesn’t really affect me that much, but I wonder about it occasionally.
So, nothing to Sesito I presume. AHL call-ups headshotting 1st liners is cool then? OPEN SEASON ON HEADS!!!!!!
Such bullshit, isn’t it? I really hope when they review the game, somebody decides to give that prick a phonecall.

Seeing as they already talked to Ovechkin and Michalek I would say Sestito got off. Love that it doesn’t even merit a phone call.
I guess the pendulum is swinging in the other direction… first half of the year it was complaints about the Bruins being protected. Now the Bruins are being suspended left and right and suspect hits on Bruins are given free pass…
Our intention isn't to discuss this... it's to see if you can bleed.

It appears that way.
I really am losing any respect I might have had for Shanahan. I have lost even more respect for the refs who have totally stunk this year (and not just in Bruins games).
agreed.
when i heard shanny was replacing colin, i thought “great! ok, so he’ll be fair, but not super strict. no throwing the book or nothin’.”
damn was i wrong.
damn how i wish i hadn’t been.
Carry On.
I like them throwing the book around.

I could not believe that Sestito did not get a phone call. I was also very concerned about Kelly. It didnt appear Hartnell made the point of contact Kell’s head but wasnt that definition of blindiside, unsuspecting vulnerable hit?
I think blindside hits are only illegal if the contact is to the head. Otherwise, I lateral hit is legal.

It looks like Hartnell’s shoulder hits the inside of Kelly’s shoulder, which is real close and I don’t know why Hartnell’s such a shitbag since he’s skilled enough to not have to be but whatever.
Basically it was really really close but I don’t think the head was the prinicipal point of contact after watching the dafoomie vid. (Kelly/Hartnell slo-mo starts at 4:22 or so)
