Games are fun. Pastings really aren’t though. And things could always turn around with 45+ minutes left to play.
Plus, the Flames are my west conf team.

well, seeing as you guys are half done with your "practice game"
with the Flambes, I have a question. I know we are all addicts, but is there any rational reason you can think of that this only match between the Finalists this year…is on a regional channel, a regional channel here, and the company (NHLN) network?
NBC paid a couple billion with a B for rights, right?
Nuck’s Misconduct Bishop, 1st United Church of Luongod. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." Gandhi. I think he was a Canucks fan...
@Vancitydan Writer at Nucks Misconduct
but the last Cup Final did good numbers
not a two US team Final maybe, but that was compelling TV, with tons of storylines, no matter who you supported.
I honestly think NBC is dropping the ball. With marketing, you could not get eyeballs for hockey with a matchup of the Final?
What’s on instead that night, say SJ and Anaheim for the umpteenth time or something?

No one is going to pay attention to hockey during an NFL playoff weekend.
by BobbyOrrsBastard on Jan 5, 2012 8:14 PM EST up reply actions
Oh, and nothing is on instead. There is no hockey game that night, probably because they don’t want to waste it against NFL playoffs.
by BobbyOrrsBastard on Jan 5, 2012 8:17 PM EST up reply actions
I get that too
its wild card weekend, and I wonder how many guys that are fans of both in cities that despise ( the Pats have a bye right ?) whatever teams are playing that night.
I know the NFL has the hammer now, for sure, but if I paid billion with a B, I would want to put my best up against it as soon as possible and see what happens.
I would bet you get some surprising numbers in other markets ( Chicago hates us, they would love to watch you guys kick our asses…they would hope, anyhow!)…and you have to start chipping away eventually.
Honestly, if I was a marketing / ad guy, and I could not sell that matchup at anytime, I would think the boss would want my job.
Regardless of how the NFL would win the numbers on brand recognition alone. You would get the guys at ESPN at least doing a “look what the NFL is competing against in the plucky NHL story”.
From listening to some radio guy there named Joe this morning, it sounds like you guys are at least jacked for the game, right?
Nuck’s Misconduct Bishop, 1st United Church of Luongod. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." Gandhi. I think he was a Canucks fan...

200M a season. Not a crapton of money in relative terms.
When your best is an afterthought, you don’t put it up against the goliath. It makes no sense. Save your resources to compete with basketball, a sport that is more of a threat and a more reasonable target.
Consider that the ultra-hyped Winter Classic gets comparable ratings to House reruns…. not worth competing against NFL playoffs that will dominate the ratings.
And we both know that ESPN would never deign to mention hockey… not when there is football playoffs to discuss and recap. It would get maybe a minute of airtime for the entire evening.
by BobbyOrrsBastard on Jan 5, 2012 8:30 PM EST up reply actions
thx
i did not think that the whole thing was that entrenched.
NHL is really a regional league right now. Reading the ratings, they are strong ( the WC wins against more than a few Bowl games, and they have carved a niche there )
Basketball is the target though, damned straight there. They did not do their league much good with a lockout that solved little for the small market teams
Nuck’s Misconduct Bishop, 1st United Church of Luongod. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." Gandhi. I think he was a Canucks fan...

Can’t imagine the lockout helped them any. Though the NHL may lose all of its recent gains if they do in fact lockout as some ‘experts’ predict will happen.

Now -7.
He came into the game at +3 and was +7 for his career. He just wiped out a career’s worth of positives…

would you call this two field goals and safety? or touchdown with failed extra point then a safety? or maybe touchdown with two point conversion. or touchdown with failed two point conversion followed by a safety?

This is what SB Nation is calling a "loaded page" for me.
Also, I can’t post images anymore, in addition to being unable to reply. Fuck you, SB Nation. Fuck you hard.
With none of the images loaded, despite the site being "finished" loading?
It’s better now, but it wasn’t for awhile there.

Is other statistical analysis necessary in a 9-0 game? I mean, unless it’s football.
