BU vs. BC, there is no “better outcome”, all outcomes are unwelcome.

I don’t care what his beliefs/opinions are, I don’t want them to affect his teammates – and even ‘great American’ Curt Schilling says he regrets sharing his political beliefs because his teammates were continually asked about them.

With all of the Rick Nash talk going on, I checked out CBJ’s cap geek page. Is/Was their GM high?
Vermette has 3 more seasons at 3.75
Umberger’s extension doesn’t even kick in until next season 5 yrs/4.6
HFBoard hero James Wisniewski 5 more yrs/5.5
Tyutin’s extension kicks in next season 6 yrs/4.5
And he gave up Voraceck and what could have been Dougie Hamilton for a guy with well documented off-ice and health issues who it was reasonable to expect wasn’t going to be happy in Columbus.

i know everyone will be against me for saying this, but the B’s have been looking for a scoring winger for quite some time now. If they were able to replace him with Horton, i think you’re looking at a very strong lineup. krejci for nash and a bunch of other shit will probably be the only way to get him though. however, i think rick nash could contriube to this team more than krejci can, so thats the only reason i’m throwing his name out…..
i’m just sorta musing here— no logical cap-numbers in front of me. i just think nash would more than fill in their horton hole.
the B’s have been looking for a scoring winger for quite some time now.
Lets look at Bruins scoring since the lockout:
2005-06: 2.78 GF/G, 24th in the league – bad
2006-07: 2.56 GF/G, 25th in the league – bad
2007-08: 2.51 GF/G, 24th in the league – bad
2008-09: 3.29 GF/G, 2nd in the league – awesome
2009-10: 2.39 GF/G, 30th in the league – worst
2010-11: 2.98 GF/G, 5th in the league – great
2011-12: 3.36 GF/G, 1st in the league – best
They’re scoring a lot, you know? It would absolutely not make sense to blow up the team for Rick Nash
Even if KPD likes trolling twitter about it

I could see the worry being that in 7 games since Horton was injured, they’ve scored 16 goals. (2.29) which is lower than their worst.
But in order to get Nash, another top 6 forward likely goes (unless the deal is Nash for Rask/Hamilton) which is foolish on a whole other level, which means you gain offense, but only an incremental gain.
In reality the Bruins really have to hope that Horton returns at some point, or that they can spin some marginal prospects/picks for a player who might mesh well with Krejci in his stead.
by Michael Taylor on Feb 14, 2012 11:52 AM EST up reply actions
KPD likes trolling, period….but thats another issue.
i dont know if you caught the line
i’m just sorta musing here— no logical cap-numbers in front of me.
sometimes its fun to play a little fantasy hockey, yknow? i guess these boards are for serious trade discussions only
Musing is fine, but I don’t see what’s wrong with people getting into why it makes absolutely zero sense.
If you’ll allow me to muse a little bit. Let’s say the Bruins are willing to both (trade Rask/Krejci) and bring in a winger with a $7.8m cap hit. Would they be better off:
A. Trading Rask/Krejci to Columbus for Rick Nash.
or
B. Wait until the offseason, trade Rask/Krejci for Keith Yandle+ and sign Zach Parise?
by Michael Taylor on Feb 14, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions
again, i didn’t mean to sound like a jerk by saying “you can only talk serious on these boards”, i was being saracastic….of course, you can criticize anything i say here =P
i’d say option B to be safe, (might take Weber in place of Yandle, but you’re comparing Ferraris to Lambos at that point)— but the sports nerd in me would love to see a roster shake-up
Who would we get to replace Rask?
How many more years can we rely on Thomas?
"but the sports nerd in me would love to see a roster shake-up"
Why would we need a roster shake-up? I am confused, we just won the Stanley Cup, we have scored more goals than any other team, we have two studs in goal, why do we need a roster shake-up? I am certain we will get a roster shake-up in the offseason when we will not able to afford some of our players, but why do it now?
?
i never said we need a roster shakeup at all actually, i was just imagining different situations you could put the team in. this is all fluff and no thought, sometimes its fun to talk about different rosters.
do i really need to spell this out? the team is playing fine and will be good going forward with no trades, but it’s interesting to consider options.
I don’t blame you at all; It drives me crazy that some people take everything literally/have to tell you why your hypothetical transaction is impossible and will never happen. I hear ya.
Kick his ass, Seabass!
by phonymahoney on Feb 14, 2012 3:33 PM EST up reply actions
Actually, I never said is "hypothetical transaction was impossible"
I was just wondering why he was wanting a roster shake-up in light of the success we have had. And again, he is the one who mentioned a roster shake-up, I am sorry if I was too literal in the interpretation of “roster shake-up”…
Okay, maybe I misunderstood your comment when you said, and I quote
" but the sports nerd in me would love to see a roster shake-up"
If that was not what you meant, then I am sorry for misunderstanding….
and what i meant by “looking for a scoring winger” i meant that they haven’t had a 40 goal scorer since Glen Murray…..i mean, come on. the B’s could use a guy like that. it might not be Rick Nash, but they could use a guy like that
hate KPD

Nothing happens in a vacuum. You’d trade Krejci for Nash in an uncapped league in a heartbeat. Two problems.
1. Because Nash is their franchise player, it will cost something significantly more than Krejci talent wise.
2. It is a Capped league. If Nash isn’t a complete stud, that contract isn’t pretty. Nash plays almost 2 minutes more a game than any Bruin forward with the exception of Bergeron. Looking at the way Julien deploys wings, it’s reasonable to expect that any bounce that Nash would see from playing with better players might be negated by a drop in TOI.
by Michael Taylor on Feb 14, 2012 11:44 AM EST up reply actions
Even with all that ice time, Nash is scoring 1.82 P/60 5on5

Washington goalies have had it tough as of late....
All three of them have given up goals from outside the blueline since the start of February…..
Holtby last night against the Sharks, Neuvirth againts the Panthers, and Vokun against the Jets. Now that is some terrible goaltending!!
They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!
My Lions lost to the Saints who are clearly the better team. (This is what happens when you back your team and they lose),
NHL players think Phil Kessel is easy to intimidate, in related news, water wet; ice cold.
