Dougie Hamilton is CHL Defenseman of the Year

Dougie Hamilton can add CHL defenseman of the year to his awards shelf. Dougie was presented with the award on Saturday at the CHL national awards ceremony in Shawinigan as part of the 2011-12 Memorial Cup festivities. Dougie beat out Jerome Gauthier-Leduc of the Rimouski Oceanic, and Alex Petrovic of the Red Deer Rebels in the voting.

Hamilton won the OHL defenseman of the year award at the start of May. Dougie was the top scoring OHL defenceman, notching 72 points in 50 games. He tied for third in the league with a plus-minus rating of plus 37. He scored 17 goals and 55 assists, finishing tied for third overall in the league for assists, including a league-high 30 assists recorded on the power play. He finished at seventh overall in scoring for the OHL playoffs, with five goals and eighteen assists for 23 points total.
