A Diamond in the Rough

One player who is eligible in the draft this year stands out as a really intriguing prospect that perhaps has been highly underrated. Ranked at 114th by Central Scouting mainly due to his size (5'9", 175lbs), Portland Winterhawks left winger Brendan Leipsic is the sort of player that the Bruins may be looking for.

Despite his small size, he plays large, with a hard-nosed edge to his game. Brendan is not afraid to go in the corners and dish out hits on players much larger than himself, and he also can score. Brendan racked up 28 goals and 30 assists for Portland this season, and went on to be a standout in the playoffs for the offensively talented team. While utilizing his great speed and agility on the rush, Brendan also showed tons of heart, working hard in the corners and in front of the net to create and captialize on lots of scoring chances.

With Sven Bartchi leaving for Calgary next year, Brendan Leipsic will be looked upon to play an even bigger role with the Portland Winter Hawks next season, and from what I've seen of his play, he's definately up to the task. Here's hoping that he has also caught the eyes of the Bruins scouting staff, and gets snatched up by them before someone else stumbles upon this hidden pearl.
