When it was announced that Jean-Sebastien Giguere would be getting the start for the Colorado Avalanche, you got the feeling that Thursday night's game was going to go one of two ways: a Bruins blowout, or a Colorado shutout. Unfortunately for Bruins fans, Giguere was spectacular.
The Bruins played a pretty solid game, as both teams traded chances throughout, but they were unable to get a single shot passed the Colorado net-minder.
Boston was particularly undisciplined tonight, giving the Avs plenty of chances on the power-play. They cashed in early, and Ryan O'Reilly's late first period goal turned out to be the difference maker. Matt Duchene added an empty-netter with under a minute left, to help secure Boston's first loss of the 2013 season.
-Tuukka. 4 goals allowed (one empty-netter) in 3 games ain't bad.
-The PK. Too many penalties for Boston, but they did a good job of holding Colorado to just one power play goal. Unfortunately for them, it turned out to be the game winner.
-Finish? Lots of shots, some great scoring chances, no results.
-Lucic going into hulk mode on recently un-concussed Gabriel Landeskog, and getting a 10 minute misconduct for his troubles.
-Dougie Hamilton looking scared and confused whenever he's tasked with starting an offensive rush.
-In Boston's last eight home games against Colorado, they've gone 0-6-1-1. That home-winless streak is Boston's longest vs. any team in the NHL.
Quote of the night:
"It was just an altercation. I bet you if I would have pushed Bordeleau I wouldn't have got 10 minutes...And if somebody pushed me like that after an altercation I highly doubt they get 10 minutes."- Milan Lucic, on his "altercation" Gabriel Landeskog.
I guess that time Shawn Thornton punched Patrick Bordeleau in the head a few times??
