Bruins vs. Canadiens Preview: 357 Days Later....

Richard Wolowicz

It has been 357 days since the last Bruins-Habs game. 357 days. That's 11 months and 19 days, or 11 months and 18 days too many. So we're going to do things a little different for this one.

As you can see over on Eyes on the Prize, we're shaking things up a little with our Public Skate tonight. When you show up at 7pm to find the game thread locked, don't be surprised! We're trying something out that we don't think has ever been done on SB Nation before. (We're trying to break things over here.)

For the first period, all commenting - and I do mean all - for the game will be done over at EOTP. Be sure to check out the link above for a couple of ground rules, but for the most part, they run things pretty much the way we do here. Start stockpiling your Subban-falls-down gifs and people-scoring-on-Carey-Price gifs and let's get ready to roll.

For the second period, EOTP will be locking their game thread and we'll open up ours. For our lovely EOTP guests, here are our guidelines for you for tonight:

That is pretty much it. Easy, right? Trolling is encouraged, but keep it above the belt please. For the third period, we'll each make individual game threads, but EotP readers are of course welcome to stick around, as we'll probably be welcome over there, too. (hopefully it will be like 5-2 Bruins by then and we can be huge jerks about it.)

So prepare yourselves!

Preview:

Where do I even begin. I am seriously so ready for these two teams to play again that I can barely function.

The Canadiens are also coming off a few days of rest tonight in preparation for their night of fun at the Bell Centre tonight. They last played Ottawa on Sunday, beating the Senators by a score of 2-1; since his return, PK Subban is +2 with two assists. He's clearly made an immediate impact on the club. Should have offersheeted him. Oh well.

Andrei Markov, the bionic man himself, leads the team in scoring with four goals and four assists. In fact, the Canadiens have gotten points from all of their players but one - Colby Armstrong. (Yannick Weber doesn't count, as he's only played one game.) Even Tomas Kaberle has an assist.

The Habs have gotten a big boost on offense from two young, diminutive forwards (on the HABS? I know, shocker, right?); 20 year old Brendan Gallagher and 18-year-old Alex Galchenyuk. Together on a line with new acquisition Brandon Prust, the two newcomers have put up four goals and eight assists between the two of them. The Habs' future is bright at forward, unfortunately. Gallagher also had a great quote in the Montreal Gazette today about facing Zdeno Chara:

"It’s gonna be cool," Gallagher said. "He’s one of the best D-men in the league. I’ve played against big boys, but never quite that big. I enjoy playing against bigger guys and I’m going to play my game. I won’t be fighting him, but other than that I’m going to be going after him. I’m going to treat him like any other D-man. I’m going to finish my check regardless of how big he is."

The only question in the lineup for Montreal tonight comes from the fourth line, where Lars Eller may be swapped out for Ryan White.

On Boston's side, Brad Marchand should be good to go; if not, word is Gregory Campbell will slot in with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin, and Ryan Spooner will make his NHL debut on the fourth line with Shawn Thornton and Lane MacDermid.

Only 9 more hours. Are you ready?
