Born in Albany, NY, Brian Lashoff came up through the OHL, went undrafted, was signed by Detroit in 2008, won gold with the 2010 US World Junior Championship team, and then scored his first NHL goal in his debut against the Blue Jackets in January, 2013. The twenty-three-year-old has good size at 6'3" but the dumb jerk doesn't seem to play up to his projected ability. This season has been hard on the Red Wings, and Lashoff is just one of several Griffins who had to make the jump to the NHL because of numerous injuries. He is often paired with Jakub Kindl, and together they struggle at times as the Red Wings' third pairing, and have been healthy scratches at times. Lashoff has been likened to a lesser version of Matt Bartkowski over at Winging It In Motown and he must be looking over his shoulder as Xavier Ouellet and Ryan Sproul begin to look like better options.
Here's a Griffins interview with Lashoff, SKIP TO THE FIGHT at the 6:21 mark!
Here is Brian's older brother, former Bruin Matt Lashoff, being noticeably superior to his baby brother in every way. GUITAR SKILLS.
