Game Notes:

  • The Bruins will attempt to go up 3-1 in the series tonight, which would give them the chance to close out the series at home on Saturday. They made the Red Wings look absolutely amateur in game three, limiting their shots in every situation and getting goals from Patrice Bergeron, Dougie Hamilton, and Jordan Caron. (Seriously, Caron.)
  • The big story of game 4 will be that Henrik Zetterberg is apparently coming back to play tonight, although he'll be given limited minutes. Just how healthy is he, and is a Zetterberg at not-100% worth the Bruins' concern at this point?
  • Sounds like Matt Bartkowski's flu bug was actually really serious:

This is how to Douglas.

So the player usage charts are still ugly (so much red to make up for from the first two games!) but check out this FF% chart. UM, GAME THREE WAS A BIT BETTER I'D SAY HOLY MOLY

Player Usage Charts, playoffs to date

Haha this is still pretty terrible. What it doesn't show, however, is how great the special teams work has been - the bubble colors only take 5v5 play into account. Clearly the key is: draw penalties, score on the power play, rinse, repeat. Can you imagine watching the 2011 team and having to rely on the power play? Nightmare fuel. The current Bruins have the best PP% in the league this playoffs. Small sample sizes, yes, but holy moly.

That high rate of 5v5 ozone starts doesn't really seem to be doing much for Detroit these last two games, eh?
