Fresh Links: Sideshow Edition

We'll always have Patrice - Francois Laplante/FreestylePhoto

Boy, I really enjoyed the opening show, the Canadian anthem, and Patrice Bergeron. Ayuh.

The Canadiens lured us in with an entertaining opening show, and then dropped the Bruins last night at the Centre Bell.

  • If you missed it, here's that riveting opening spectacle. [MassLive]
  • There was also a very nice back story on their anthem singer, Mme. Ginette Reno. "O, Canada" always gives me chills, and she simply nailed it. [PuckDaddy]
  • And who is not thrilled at the HNIC opening montages, this one to Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love." [StanleyCupOfChowder]
  • As for the Habs, they seen their opportunities, and they took 'em. Served up on a silver platter. [WEEI]
  • The first penalty was on P.K. Subban! What the heck happened? Where are the Bruins? [TheBostonGlobe]
  • It was almost as if Habs were switched for Bruins, but can they keep it up? [TheStar]
  • Some think the final penalty should have been on Subban as well. [NESN]
  • Or maybe "These are (Subban's) playoffs, we just get to watch." [TheGlobeAndMail]
  • Missed opportunity for a penalty shot or no, "it's about bearing down and starting a lot earlier to make it a game." [BostonHerald]
  • And Milan Lucic still does not like Alexei Emelin much. [Sportsnet]
  • Don't even THINK of blaming the Maroon Line. (Unless you're Days of Y'Orr, see below.) [Boston.com]
  • Feeling a little down after a disappointing loss? I know these folks always cheer me up. (Very probably *NSFW*) [DaysOfY'Orr]
  • Joe Haggerty posted the final word in a sleepy blur in the wee, wee hours of this morning. [CSNNE] and the Twitterverse howled. [@PeteBlackburn] Then Deadspin got hold of it. [Deadspin]

Elsewhere around the rink:

  • Marc-Andre Fleury is not too big a star to thank his friend. [Grantland]
  • Elliotte Friedman offers his thirty thoughts. [CBCSports]
  • Although he, himself is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame, his well-worn sweater is, and here's why. [TheColorOfHockey]
  • A gallery of injured game faces, players and officials both, that demonstrate the price paid on ice sometimes. (Not for the fainthearted, likely *NSFW*) [SportsIllustrated]
  • Former goalies are at a premium, apparently. Now Ron Hextall has been named the Flyers' GM. [PuckDaddy]
  • Shhhh! Five great ways to cheat at hockey. [TheScore]
  • Take a look at this explanation of how face-offs and zone starts color a player's Corsi. [BoysOnTheBus]
  • Is it curtains for "dump and chase?" [TheScore]
