Just one day before the National Hockey League's Entry Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers have made drastic changes to the face of their franchise.

In two separate deals made within a half hour of each other on Thursday, the club traded away captain Mike Richards and former 40-plus goal scorer Jeff Carter.

Richards was shipped to the Los Angeles Kings for forwards Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and a second-round draft pick, while Carter was dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek and a first (8th overall) and third round draft pick.

By dealing Carter and Richards, the Flyers opened up enough cap space to then sign recently-acquired goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract.
