Midweek Bruins Prospect Report
It's that time again - time for your weekly dose of baby B's. This week, fortunately, we can distract ourselves from the Providence Bruins' horrendous start by taking a look at how amazingly our OHL and college prospects have done so far.
Midweek Bruins Prospect Report
Every Wednesday here on Cup of Chowder, we'll bring you what will hopefully grow into the most comprehensive set of stats and reporting on Bruins prospects out there. Through covering the P-Bruins over on Something's Bruin and extensive research on the OHL, College, and European leagues, we'll bring you who's trending up, who's streaking, injury reports, and anything else we can get our hands on.
While the AHL and colleges don't kick off until this coming weekend, there's still major junior and euro league stats to report on.
Zane Gothberg: "No Words" To Describe Tim Thomas' Play In 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Bruins prospect Zane Gothberg didn't mix words about whom he paid the most attention to during the team's recent run to the Stanley Cup.
Being a goaltender, Gothberg's eyes were on Tim Thomas, who backstopped the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup in 39 years and took home the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and Vezina trophy as best regular season goaltender, to boot.
Bruins sign Anton Khudobin, Trent Whitfield for Providence
Though the big news today is the signing of forward Benoit Pouliot, the Bruins made two other moves in free agency today, signing goaltender Anton Khudobin and veteran forward Trent Whitfield to two-year, two-way contracts.
Khudobin was acquired at the trade deadline from the Wild for small blueliner Jeff Penner and vanished-in-Sweden Mikko Lehtonen. Until his acquisition, the P-Bruins stagnated in front of last year's free-agent goaltender signing Nolan Schaefer, often relying on the less-than-stellar skills of Matt Dalton and as-yet too young Michael Hutchinson in net. Although each had their brief good moments, a steady rhythm came with Khudobin in net. He went 9-4-1 in 14 starts, and came in in relief twice for Hutchinson.
