Bubba from Canes Country (SB Nation's Carolina Hurricanes blog) accurately predicted a trade betweem the Bruins and Hurricanes invloving Aaron Ward and Patrick Eaves.

Arbitration likely for Bruins and Hunwick

Many speculated that the Bruins and defenseman Matt Hunwick would reach a deal before the two sides headed to arbitration on July 24th. Joe Haggerty is now reporting that negotiations between the two sides has come to a standstill. They seem to be about $500,000 apart on salary expectations with the Bruins looking to ink a deal worth between $1 million and $1.3 million per season, while the Hunwick is looking for something in the neighborhood of between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Bruins sign Drew Larman

In a move to fill out the Providence roster, the Bruins have signed center Drew Larman. Larman has spent the last 3 seasons with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. Last season he compiled 10-12-22 totals in 54 games. He has appeared in 22 NHL games with the Florida Panthers and has registered 3 NHL points (2-1-3).

Bruins sign prospect camp invitee Zach McKelvie

The Bruins have signed defenseman Zach McKelvie to a 2 year entry-level contract. The 6'2", 196 lb West Point grad attended the Bruins prospect camp this week but did not participate due to a shoulder injury. He is rcovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum. He will likely play in Providence this year.

Bruins sign Trent Whitfield to 2-way deal

The Bruins have signed free agent center Trent Whitfield to a 2 year, 2-way contract. The 32 year old centerman, who was originally drafted by the Bruins in 1996 (4th round, 100th overall) has played in 177 NHL games with 11-17-28 totals. He spent the majority of the past three seasons with the Peoria Riverman of the AHL, where he served as captain. He put up 52 points in 80 games last season for Peoria (20-32-52). New England Hockey Fans may remember him from his 6 seasons with the Portland Pirates. Whitfield could see some time with the big club early in the season while Krejci and Kessel are still recovering from surgery.

Bruins re-sign Byron Bitz

John Bishop of the Boston Bruins official website is reporting via his Twitter page that the Bruins have re-sign forward Byron Bitz: "Bitzy Cat is back! The Boston Bruins have re-signed Byron Bitz. Details to follow on BostonBruins.com"
