Being sick coupled with a late West Coast puck drop meant that I didn't get to see much of this one. I was able to keep my eyes open for the first period, though. What I did see was Jonas Hiller looking sharp in the Ducks' net, Dan Sexton putting the Ducks up 1-0, Adam McQuaid battling hard in his first NHL regular season bout and taking down Troy Bodie, Byron Bitz in his first game back from a back injury throwing fists with Kyle Chipchura, and Zdeno Chara whiffing on a golden opportunity in front as the puck tilted up on its edge at the end of the opening period.
Since I didn't watch more than the first 20 minutes of this one, I'm going to have to mail it in with a generic AP newswire style recap. Enjoy:
Steve Eminger had to wait until his 31st game of season before he found the back of the net, but the Ducks defenseman made his first of the year count as he poked in a rebound off a shot from Bobby Ryan for the eventual game winner at 8:07 of the third period. Dan Sexton, Matt Beleskey, and Ryan Getzlaf also chipped in with goals for Anaheim, while Zdeno Chara, Matt Hunwick, Marco Sturm were the goal scorers for the B's. Tuukka Rask stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced, while Jonas Hiller made 29 saves for the Ducks.
Notes:
- With centers Marc Savard and Patrice Bergeron on the shelf with injuries, the Bruins are a little thin at the center position right now. Normally a right wing, Mark Recchi skated as a center and finished the game with two assists. He did struggle a bit at the dot though, winning just 3 of the 9 draws he took. The absence of Savard and Bergeron was definitely felt in the face-off circle as the B's won just 37% of the face-offs against the Ducks on Wednesday night.
- The Ducks will likely be without Teemu Selanne for the next few weeks after suffering a fractured jaw. Selanne left the game in the third period after being struck in the face by a shot from teammate Ryan Whitney that deflected off of Miroslav Satan's stick and caromed off the ice. The veteran right wing is scheduled to have surgery to repair the jaw today.
- The Bruins are back at it tonight when they take on Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks at 10:30 PM ET.
