Bob McKenzie: Bruins sign Miroslav Satan

Rumors surfaced following yesterday's NHL Winter Classic that the Bruins were close to signing verteran left winger Miroslav Satan. According TSN's Bob McKenzie, this rumor is in fact a reality. The "hockey insider" posted on on his Twitter page the following message confirming the deal:

Just to confirm yesterday's rumors/reports -- Miro Satan has signed on with Boston for the balance of this season. He has a No Move Clause.

The 35-year old Slovakian winger was waived by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the end of last season after recording 36 points (17-19-36) in 65 games with the NHL club and 9 points (3-6-9) in 10 games with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins of the AHL. Despite not latching on to a team over the summer, Satan was selected to represent Slovakia at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver alongside new Bruins teammate Zdeno Chara.

The no move clause in Satan deal means that he can not be sent down to Providence or traded...or as Joe Haggerty from WEEI joked, "sent down to the underworld". Other terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

One downside to this move is that if Satan decides to wear his familiar #81, it will be difficult to tell his replica jerseys in the Garden stands from the protest jerseys calling the last man to wear a black & gold #81 sweater the devil.
