With the Bruins facing their first three game losing streak since October the new look Toronto Maple Leafs seemed to be the perfect remedy for what ailed the them. Though the Bruins moved up to 5-0-0 against the Maple Leafs this season the Leafs made it close.
Jordan Caron had two goals and an assist for his second straight multi-point night. Tyler Seguin also found the back of the net twice in the win.
Caron Carrying the Load
It was the second multi-point night for the former first rounder who finally seems to be turning a corner this season. Caron was once again all over the ice, moving his feet, and creating chances. It's a refreshing sight from a guy who up until Sunday has been nearly invisible during his time in the lineup.
If he can keep it up it will really help the ailing lineup. Caron's play is also the one of the few signs of urgency on a team that has been lacking some since the start of the calender year. Caron is looking to make the decision to move him hard once Rich Perverley and Nathan Horton (big if) return. This will be helpful if either or both come out slow upon their return.
Still Are Some Holes
Despite the goal support the Bruins' defense still left a little to be desired. Tim Thomas allowed four goals on 29 shots and the team had a total of eight giveaways on the night. Though the Maple Leafs still had a lot of problems of their own the defense still hasn't found its footing.
Combined with a clunky powerplay (0 for 2 on the night) the Bruins allowed the Leafs to hang around late into the game.
Though the D-corps is still missing Andrew Ference they need to find a groove a soon, especially with a rusty Marty Turco (hopefully) on his way to Boston.
Turco Time?
Speaking of Turco, the Leafs' broadcast mentioned that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said he believes it is a "50-50" chance that Turco clears waivers by the noon deadline Wendsday. Though he hasn't played an NHL game since last season the possibility that somebody may steal him away seems to be growing. Ottawa and Toronto are still looking for some stability in their goaltending but with Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Mathieu Garon getting injured Tuesday it may be a stressful day for Bruins Management.
The Bruins return home Thursday night to face the Buffalo Sabres. Whether Turco is with them or not, we'll have to wait and see.
