Sure, the real opening night was seven months and a few days ago. But the season that matters most kicks off tonight, and since we're all gonna be parked on our couches watching Pittsburgh and Philly (at the very least), Detroit and Nashville and Vancouver and Los Angeles, we might as well talk about it, right?

Honestly, this has got to be one of the most exciting opening nights in recent playoff memory - don't get me wrong, I'm as pumped as the next guy is for tomorrow, but kicking off the playoffs with Detroit/Nashville and Philly/Pittsburgh is really about all that we could ask for.

I'll use this space to offer up a bit of transparency, too: for the next (hopefully) two months during Bruins games, you'll notice that the Public Skates will be broken up by period. Last year's playoff threads got awfully cluttered by the end of the game with hundreds upon hundreds of comments, and in an effort to keep things from getting too congested, we're going to open a new thread for each period.

That said, we'll have an open thread going on non-Bruins game nights so that we can chat about everything else happening in the world of hockey, and those will be kept to one page.

Anyway, enough logistics. Sit back, crack a beer and let's get these playoffs underway.
