NHL Awards 2012: Vezina Trophy Awarded to Jonathan Quick by SBNation Bloggers

Los Angeles Kings goaltender, Milford, CT native and UMass alum Jonathan Quick was voted the Vezina Trophy winner by SBNation. Fact is, we probably voted with the past five weeks in mind, which I don't think the PHWA is allowed to do when they cast their ballots for one entity or another. But the PHWA also didn't name Claude Giroux a Hart Trophy finalist, so it's not like they're getting everything right here.

Quick started a career-high 69 games for the Kings this season, going 35-21-13 in those contests and notching a career high 10 shutouts. He also set personal bests in save percentage (.929) and goals against average (1.95).

Henrik Lundqvist came in second in the ballot, which was cast by 39 bloggers, representing each of SBNation's 33 hockey blogs. Mike Smith was a distant third, and Tim Thomas didn't receive a single vote (sorry).

Pekka Rinne, Brian Elliott and Jimmy Howard also received votes, because apparently we all voted for goaltenders that were still playing hockey at this time of year, regardless of which continent they happened to be playing on.

Quick and the Kings lost just their second game of these playoffs yesterday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Phoenix Coyotes that sent their Western Conference Final back to the desert for a Game Five tomorrow, where LA's perfect road record in these playoffs will be on the line.

I say Quick earned it. Your thoughts?
