Tuesday Morning Skate: It's Glen Sather's World and We're Just Living In It

Welcome to New York, Rick! Just put your bags down over there.
Welcome to New York, Rick! Just put your bags down over there.

As you've all seen, yesterday afternoon the Rangers traded Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Tim Erixon, a 1st round pick to the Blue Jackets for Rick Nash. The rangers also gave up Steve Delisle and a conditional third-round pick, apparently. Note that Steve Delisle is so minor-league that he doesn't get auto-tagged by SBNation. Intrepid commenter Satan81 points out that Delisle might actually just be hand-delivering a case of tape/bag of pucks.

Per our friends at The Cannon, this is what Columbus's forwards will look like next year:

Vinny Prospal Derick Brassard Cam Atkinson
Nick Foligno Artem Anisimov Brandon Dubinsky
R.J. Umberger Ryan Johansen Derek Dorsett
Mark Letestu Derek MacKenzie Jared Boll
Ryan Russell Colton Gillies

Heh, they could do a Prospal - Anisimov - Dubinsky former-rangers line. Doesn't look like a contender, to be honest. And here's what the Rangers will probably be:

Rick Nash - Brad Richards - Marian Gaborik

All of the analysis in the world can't sum it up as well as this one tweet:

And he knows a lot about disasters for Columbus. He was GM from 1998-2007 and under his oversight the jackets had a grand total of 6 60+ player-seasons. To put that in perspective, the Bruins had 4 60+ players just last season.

Glen Sather makes crazy signings (it is still the Rangers, after all) but he's an absolute wizard at trades. Shades of this little ditty, right here:

June 30, 2009: Scott Gomez traded to Montreal by NY Rangers with Tom Pyatt and Michael Busto for Chris Higgins, Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko.

Okay so Sather's swindled Howson and the Habs, whatever. Here's one he did with the Flames but it was before Jay Feaster showed up:

February 3, 2010: Traded F Chris Higgins and F Ales Kotalik to Calgary for F Olli Jokinen and F Brandon Prust.

Man. Ales Kotalik. What a bad hockey player.

Rick Nash Scoring Against The Rangers Highlight:

So do the Rangers just pick up whoever drops a bunch of goals on them?
