For the second year in a row, the Bruins won their home opener, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning by a score of 3-1. It wasn't the most raucous of wins, but the team got the job done. The third line looked inspired, we got to experience some sweet David Krejci - to - Milan Lucic action, Patrice Bergeron made Anders Lindback look silly shorthanded, Jarome Iginla got punchy and took Radko Gudas to the box with him for five minutes...all in all, not a bad night.

The Good:

- Jordan Caron's play last night was excellent. He was denied a goal in the first period due to the ref's absurdly quick whistle, but continued to play well and had several good scoring chances throughout the night.

- Tuukka Rask earned every bit of that First Star of the Game and we should absolutely be talking about it. He made 32 saves on 33 shots, including a flurry right at the end of the first period that involved two lasers from Steven Stamkos. The Lightning managed to fire some quality shots at Rask, and he looked sharp.

- While Torey Krug didn't look stellar, Dougie Hamilton, paired with Dennis Seidenberg, had a quietly great night. His underlying numbers have him leading the D in Fenwick %. Not bad.

The Bad:

- Okay, yeah, Iginla for Gudas wasn't really the best tradeoff in the history of ever.

- Caron's goal was a good goal, dammit.

- How do you powerplay? The PP looked awful.

The Interesting:

- Apparently the Bruins are the first team in history to open their season scoring with a penalty shot. Neat! If someone else ever does it, the Bruins can still revel in the fact that well, ours was shorthanded. Which is fun. The Bruins are pretty good at doing stuff shorthanded, eh?

- It's bizarre how similar Reilly Smith's skating stance is to Tyler Seguin's. Totally random, totally weird.
