Bruins Prospects Roundup Week 7

The week of November 18 - November 24

NCAA

Matt Benning (Northeastern University)

Northeastern swept conference foe Merrimack College 5-2 and 2-0 thanks to solid defensive play and MC's anemic offense. Benning contributed an assist in the first win. Here's a video of Benning and fellow Huskies freshman Mike Szmatula speaking on their initial impressions of NCAA hockey and doing word association for teammates. Having hockey players do word association rarely disappoints.

Brian Ferlin (Cornell University)

Cornell had a productive weekend with a 5-1 win over Brown and a 2-1 win over Rob O'Gara and defending national champion Yale University. Ferlin had a power play goal and an assist on the game winner. If you're in the New York City area, check out Ferlin's Cornell take on Grzelcyk's Boston University in Red Hot Hockey at MSG on Friday.

Zane Gothberg (University of North Dakota)

North Dakota visited the Bay State for the weekend series against Matt Grzelcyk's BU losing 3-1 and tying 3-3, in a game they outshot the Terriers by nearly 30. I saw Friday night's game and North Dakota was not particularly good, certainly not deserving of a number 15 ranking (assuming you give those any merit). Gothberg played Saturday night (of course) and stopped 28 of 31.

Matt Grzelcyk (Boston University)

BU hosted North Dakota winning 3-1 and tying 3-3. You know this already because you just read it above, though. Grzelcyk had an assist in the win. Having finally taken in Grz in person, I can say that his struggles is likely due to bad puck luck. He looked very good offensively and defensively on Friday, including five shots on goal (and 40 through 13 games on the season). He's still very much on track for a spot on the USA World Junior Championship roster.
