The week of December 2 - December 8
NCAA
Matt Benning (Northeastern University)
Northeastern managed a 3-3 tie against Providence College despite being outshot 55-26. Benning and co. can't be happy with that result after taking a 3-0 lead into the third. A bad Benning penalty with NU already shorthanded opened the doors to PC's comeback. On the bright side, Benning had two assists, including one short handed. He looked pretty good on the PK as well.

Brian Ferlin (Cornell University)
Cornell skated to a 2-2 tie against Colgate. Ferlin may not have registered any points, but he was on the ice for both Cornell goals and that's not nothing. He also took three straight penalties in the span of about eight game minutes. You don't see that often. It took him 12 games to earn a trip to the box, believe it or not.

Ryan Fitzgerald (Boston College)
BC bounced back from last week's surprising defeat with a sweep over UNH 6-2 and 2-1. Fitzgerald, who made the USA's preliminary WJC roster this week, played third line center instead of his usual first or second line wing. That kind of diversity can only help his cause. He assisted on BC's sixth in the blowout which doesn't hurt either. Fitzgerald was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November so what I'm trying to say is he had a good week.

Zane Gothberg (University of North Dakota)
North Dakota faced off against Colton Hargrove's Western Michigan and swept them with a pair of 3-2 victories despite being outshot 63-40. Gothberg earned the start both nights, making 59 saves on the weekend. He was named the first star of the first game and the second star of the second game and I think he probably played his way into the starting role (for now) allowing only two even strength goals in two games.

Matt Grzelcyk (Boston University)
BU was dropped 3-2 in overtime and tied 1-1 in its weekend series against Merrimack College. They were once again outshot, 43-69, despite 11 on the weekend from Grzelcyk (he had EIGHT in that 1-1 tie), so don't point the finger at him. He score a goal in the loss. Grzelcyk also joined Fitzgerald on Team USA's preliminary WJC roster this week.

He was also received a 10 minute misconduct penalty in the first game, his second of the season. Sexton is third in the nation in penalty minutes but is scoring at almost a point per game.
