James Neal gets five games for Marchand hit. Too much? Not enough?

Following his actions against Brad Marchand on Saturday night, James Neal had a phone hearing today and as a result has been suspended for five games. If you missed it, here's the hit in question:

Five games is the maximum a player can be suspended after a phone hearing. Is this a good number of games to suspend Neal for? Would it have been more if Marchand had gotten injured? SHOULD it have been more?

And also - how does this bode for Shawn Thornton?
