Peter Chiarelli announced today around 1pm that the Bruins have recalled Torey Krug from the AHL Providence Bruins.
Krug has 13 goals and 32 assists for 45 points in 63 regular season games with Providence this year, and three assists in seven games in the AHL playoffs. The 5'9 defenseman adds a bonus dose of AMERICA to the Bruins' blueline, which is always cool.
Why the recall? When Matt Bartkowski was called up, it was because Wade Redden was hurt, and when he stayed in, it was because Ference was hurt as well. After Dennis Seidenberg didn't play the rest of the way after taking a weird hit last night, it's very likely that Krug will be slotting in as more than just the seventh defenseman. They're considering him over Aaron Johnson, who hasn't seen any playoff time yet this year.
If this all shakes out, our defense for game 1 against the Rangers could be: Zdeno Chara, Johnny Boychuk, Adam McQuaid, Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug, and Dougie Hamilton.
So that's a little scary.
