Get to know a dumb jerk Red Wing: SprOuellet (Ryan Sproul, Xavier Ouellet)

These two defensemen seem to flock together, so let's kill two birds with one stone!

Xavier Oullet has been called up and might(?) appear in tonight's game. Here's a quick primer:

Signed together by the Red Wings in March of 2012, the two Grand Rapids Griffins were called up and then paired defensively in the Wings' season ending victory over the Blues.

The game marked defenseman Xavier Ouellet 's second call-up to the NHL. Born in Bayonne, France, the twenty-year old "XO" (don't you LOVE it?) was named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team for the past two years, and has scored 4 goals, 12 assists, and served 22 penalty minutes for the Griffins this season. His previous experience in Detroit came in a three-game stretch this past October, when Swedish dumb jerks Niklas Kronwall and Jonathan Ericsson were both out (the former to injury, the latter to paternal leave.) In his NHL debut game in October, "XO" performed credibly with this move against Joe Thornton:

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Sproul made his NHL debut in the Blues game. A former OHL and CHL defenseman of the year, and AHL all-rookie team member from Mississauga, he is a notably big body with offensive upside. He may be most famous for delivering a shot to his own roommate Mitch Callahan's jaw that resulted in a bloody selfie that went viral on Twitter. [MLive]

Although Detroit may have closed out their season in a shutout of St. Louis, don't let it go to your dumb jerk heads, kids, the Blues were without eight regular roster players in their lineup. Just sayin'.
