The Bruins announced today that they have signed a letter of intent to move their practice space into Boston Landing, a mixed-use space in Brighton that includes WGBH and New Balance's world headquarters, when the ice rink there is completed.
"I am thrilled that we have found the Bruins a new practice home within the Boston city limits," said Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs in a press release today. "Our goal is to set the industry standard in everything that we do, and we are confident that our new practice facility will do just that. As we enter the design phase of the project, we look forward to sharing details as they become available."
Currently, the Bruins practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, a spot that is only accessible by car or by commuter rail if you fancy a mile walk from the station to the arena. Boston Landing will make watching a Bruins practice far more accessible to those who don't live immediately around the rink - with hubway stations, a new commuter rail station, and easy bus access, city dwellers will be able to catch a practice much more easily than before.
The new facility will share space with a state-of-the-art track and field complex and fitness center.
So say your goodbyes to frozen fingers and paper cups of machine hot chocolate this coming season - Ristuccia, while quaint, won't hold a candle to this new space. It's slated to open for the beginning of the 2016-2017 season.
