The Saskatchewan Roughriders played the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second half of a home-and-home last night in what is referred to across the CFL as the "Banjo Bowl." It was rocky going at first, as Winnipeg was the first team to score a touchdown. However, early in the second, the Roughriders block a field goal and returned the ball 60 yards for a touchdown. Winnipeg answered with a single point rouge, but Saskatchewan piled on with a safety, field goal, rushing TD, and finally a Weston Dressler 74-yard Punt Return TD to finish out the first half.
It's good that the Riders piled on early, as QB Darien Durant was injured in the third quarter. On a play blown dead, a Winnipeg pass rusher 'sacked' him and jammed Durant's elbow. Durant lost the football, but the Riders got it due to a penalty earlier in the play. The Winnipeg faithful kept to their feet and cheered as Durant was squirming in pain and finally had to be helped off. It was an arm injury, but he was in so much pain he could barely walk. Fuck you, Winnipeg. The Riders have enough trouble on offense already without you killing our QB.
The Riders offense was pretty much dead after that, scoring one FG in the whole second half. Luckily, the defense was up to the task to keep Winnipeg behind, only allowing 2 rouges and 2 TDs.
Durant will be examined and the team is expected to announce his status early this week.
What's on tap, y'all?
