The Bruins host the Coyotes this evening at 7:00PM, and one accomplishment is still eluding them so far this season.

  • Not to sound greedy, but a win at home would be most welcome.[PatriotLedger]

  • Don't get cocky, Bruins, a remarkably effective power play alone is not enough to power the team through an entire season.[TheBostonGlobe]

  • The mix-and-match we've seen on forward lines is unusual for a Claude Julien Bruins team, it is all an effort to find combinations that work. Bonus: A young visitor from across the pond was in town to meet Zdeno Chara.[BostonHerald]

  • Chara's visitor was warmly welcomed as he skated with the team, led stretches, and left with a few souvenirs.[NESN]

  • Moving Ryan Spooner to the left wing is not so much a demotion as it is a choice to keep him with Joonas Kemppainen, with whom he has shared a measure of success.[WEEI]

  • Prospect Jesse Gabrielle is the WHL player of the week. Brad Marchand would be proud, as Gabrielle also leads the WHL in shorthanded goals.[PGCougars]

  • Revisit the Joe Thornton trade looking through your hindsight goggles. Things turned out pretty okay for the Bruins, all things considered.[NHLNumbers]

Elsewhere around the rink:

  • Not your prototypical "hockey wife," Jenny Scrivens is a professional goaltender for the NWHL Riveters. Playing beyond college and the Olympics is an option that she hopes will be there for the younger girls now coming up through the ranks.[MiamiHerald]

  • In this interview, Zoe Hayden explains what her hopes are for Victory Press and why she felt compelled to step up and make it happen.[KeySmash]

  • In this grab bag of observations from around the league, Allan Muir asks how long the Penguins will keep their coach after failing to ignite offense with the cast of snipers on their roster. He also agrees with the Zac Rinaldo decision and praises the transparency of the explanation in the Player Safety video.[SportsIllustrated]

  • Take a look at the NHL's top and bottom five teams- who would have predicted the Flames would be among the latter? Bonus: A no-goal controversy in Edmonton, a few injuries to report, and one way that the Canucks' season so far mirrors the Bruins. [Grantland]

  • Hey, hockey fans! Now there's a dating advice column just for us![TheRoyalHalf]

  • This player value metric makes a lot of sense. WAR is an effort to measure the performance of a player compared to the cost of a similarly productive player with a lower salary hit.[TheHockeyNews]

  • From the ridiculous to the sublime: A number of NHLers have posted Halloween costume pictures, including some former Bruins.[TheHockeyNews]

  • Send in the clowns? Nathan Beaulieu and Brendan Gallagher take GoPro cameras and tiptoe gingerly through a haunted house. Trigger warning- CLOWNS! (Video, 8:20)[PuckDaddy]
