Khokhlachev sent down, Vatrano called up

Frank Vatrano's first shot in the NHL could come as early as tomorrow against Montreal

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Frank Vatrano, he of the 10 goals in 10 AHL games, including 4 in one game against the Portland Pirates has been called up to the Bruins, with Alex Khokhlachev's demotion freeing up a roster spot, all from the AHL transactions page.

This could be solely related to waiver status - Khokhlachev does not need to clear waivers to be sent down, and other players like Tyler Randell, Zac Rinaldo, and Max Talbot would need to clear waivers. Since it is past 12:00, when teams have to disclose who is being put on waivers, they would have to wait until tomorrow to do so, which would mean they would not have a roster spot cleared for Vatrano until the following day at noon, leaving them without the sniper for the game against Montreal.

For now, Vatrano, the college free agent out of UMass last year, looks to slot in with David Krejci and Loui Eriksson, with Eriksson likely flipping back to right wing to accommodate Vatrano's left hand shot. In Vatrano's 10 AHL games, he has 10 goals, 2 assists, and 37 shots, and is currently fifth in the AHL in points.
