Winter Classic Roundup 12/27: Women's game finally announced, weather report, mayoral betting, jersey history

New, comment
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Winter Classic is just days away. First, let's take a look at the weather:

Looks good for the main event, and also for the December 31st festivities. Oh, and those festivities have a new fun thing happening, as well!

Women's Outdoor Classic announced

That's right! The previously hinted about Women's outdoor game between the Boston Pride of the NWHL and Les Canadiennes of the CWHL has been officially announced by the NHL.  You can see our post for rosters for the game. As previously mentioned, all team USA players will not be able to make it for the game, which is a shame. Luckily, the Pride also didn't have those players yesterday and still managed to hand the Connecticut Whale their first-ever loss. Should still be some good hockey.

Wanna bet, Marty?

As should be tradition if it is not already, Marty Walsh and the mayor of Montreal have agreed to make a bet on the Winter Classic. Here's the video:

Fun stuff!

Goalie Masks

Jonas Gustavsson has had a mask made especially for the Winter Classic. Here is a first look:

Jersey History

Both the Bruins and habs's jerseys for the Winter Classic are pulled from each team's storied history. Amalie Benjamin took a deeper dive into the subject. [Boston Globe]
