The NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament starts today. It's a pretty fun tournament, terrible ESPN commentating and all. There are a few Bruins prospects that are playing in the tournament. Here's your annotated tournament schedule:
Today, 2pm: Yale vs Boston University (ESPNU, TSN2):
- BU: Captain Matthew Grzelcyk (Junior, 85th overall pick, 2012) is a Boston Bruins defensive prospect. Hockey East first-team all-star, and led hockey east defensemen in scoring this year with a point-per-game clip. Jack Eichel is the real star of the team, but "Gralphabet" was a big part of winning Hockey East.
- Yale: Robert O'Gara (Junior, 151st overall pick, 2011) was named ECAC Defenseman of the year this year. He played every game as a freshman for Yale's national championship squad, and has only improved.
Today, 4:30pm: St. Cloud State vs Michigan Tech (ESPN3, TSN Go)
Today, 5:30pm: Minnesota vs Minnesota Duluth (ESPNU, TSN3)
Today, 8pm: Quinnipiac vs North Dakota (ESPNU, TSN3)
- UND: Zane McIntyre (Junior, 165th overall pick, 2010) is the NCHC goaltender of the year and has been the backbone for a decent North Dakota squad. He's played every game for UND and rocked a .929 save percentage for the year. His save percentage has been improving year over year, as well.
Saturday, 3pm: Boston College vs Denver (ESPN2, TSN2)
- BC: Ryan Fitzgerald (Sophomore, 120th Overall, 2013) hasn't won any awards this year, but did score BC's overtime game-winner against Harvard in the beanpot consolation game.
- Denver: Danton Heinen (Freshman, 116th overall, 2014) was the unanimous NCHC rookie of the year this year. He's scored 45 points in 38 games and looks like he might be a steal at that low spot in the draft.
Saturday, 4pm: RIT vs Minnesota St. Mankato (ESPNU, TSNI)
Saturday, 5:30pm: Winners of Yale/BU and Minnesota/UMD (ESPN2, TSN2)
Saturday, 6:30pm: Providence vs Miami (Ohio) (ESPNU, TSN2)
Saturday, 7:30pm: Harvard vs Omaha (ESPN3, TSN Go)
- Harvard: Wiley Sherman (Freshman, 150th overall, 2013) is a big - 6'7"! - defenseman who doesn't exactly have a scoring touch, but plays a clean game and has been in every game for Harvard as a freshman.
Saturday, 9pm: Winners of St. Cloud State/Michigan Tech vs Quinnipiac/North Dakota (ESPNU, TSN2)
Sunday, 5pm: Winners of BC/Denver vs Providence/Miami (Ohio) (ESPNU, TSN4)
Sunday, 7:30pm: Winners of RIT/Minnesota St. Mankato vs Harvard/Omaha (ESPNU, TSN2)
At that point, we'll know who's making the trip to Boston for the Frozen Four in April! Who are you most excited to see?
