Report: Bruins Narrow General Manager Search Down To Four

They're entering the final stretch, or at least it appears that way.

ESPN Boston Bruins beat writer Joe McDonald, a man who has taken his fair share of beatings on this site, reported Sunday night the team has narrowed its search of potential GM candidates down to four names.

McDonald reported current assistant general manager and former defenseman Don Sweeney is among the finalists. Rumors have circulated that current New York Rangers assistant general manager Jeff Gorton is in the mix as well, a report the Boston Herald picked up earlier in the week.

Tales linking former Pittsburgh Penguins roster-builder Ray Shero and the often incompetent John Ferguson Jr - former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager - are swirling around as well. Shero, a Stanley Cup champion with the Penguins in 2009, struggled to surround stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin with a supporting cast capable of moving Pittsburgh back to the Finals.

Ferguson Jr., the architect behind the infamous Andrew Raycroft for Tuukka Rask swap, should be locked out of TD Garden if he indeed has a callback interview for the position. I mean, he's lucky to have another job in hockey (he was an assistant to Chiarelli for 2014-2015 - that was this year!).
