HASTA LA VISTA BABY: The SCoC Guard is Changing (slightly)

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It's been three years since I took over Stanley Cup of Chowder during the 2012 lockout, and it has been a fantastic run. I've covered everything from that lockout to multiple Drafts to the Stanley Cup Final; I've covered AHL games and the Memorial Cup and women's hockey and the Olympics. I've seen this team fight through great times and terrible times; I've experienced both scorn towards my fanbase but also the giant virtual group hug that an online community can provide during a tragic time in my city. I've met amazing people and formed long-standing friendships along the way.

Managing a SBNation blog has been fantastic. It's also been horrendously draining.

So I'm stepping down.

My interest in writing about hockey has waned drastically over the last year. The 82-game season wears on you, even with a staff as fantastic as SCoC currently has, a staff so willing to write anything and everything you ask of them. I went to far more games as a fan this past season, and even with the Bruins struggling as hard as they did, I had so much more fun at those games. I'd missed it. I want to get back to that place. And my interests have branched out. I'm giving more attention to women's hockey, soccer and various motorsports, if you hadn't noticed my crazy tweets about that - and trying out podcasting about Formula 1 with a good friend of mine.

I want to get back to a place where I write because I feel passionate about something, not because I feel obligated to.

I'm very proud of what this site has become over the past three years. I believe we've covered the team to the best of our ability, have acted as a watchdog to MSM who tend to spin stories just for clicks, and have addressed important social issues as best we can. I believe we've made SCoC a welcoming, interesting place for everyone who loves the Bruins, and even for some people who don't. I'm stepping down happy to leave behind what I and my staff have created, and I believe that the place will remain in good hands.

Cornelius, who has basically been running the show for the last few months while I've been travelling and generally unproductive, is going to be doing that in an official capacity now - he'll be taking over as Managing Editor. I'm not going away entirely - I'll be staying on as an assistant, to help edit and organize game day coverage, and to write when, again, I feel passionate about something great or something stupid that the Bruins inevitably do. (Something tells me we'll see more of the latter in the coming days, but that's neither here nor there.) It might take a while, but I'll be back around.

Thank you to everyone who reads this blog. You're the reason we keep doing what we do, the reason I'm stepping down so we can keep the quality at a level you deserve. To our regulars - we may not always see eye to eye, but thank you for sticking around regardless of the site's change of voice over the years. Thanks to SBNation for having given me the chance to run the place - in 2009 when I started blogging I dreamed of being able to write for this many eyeballs, and it's been brilliant to get our writing to such a massive audience. Specifically, thank you to Tyler Bleszinski and Travis Hughes for always being there to listen when I've had questions or issues to address. You guys have a good thing going here.

Thank you, also, to the SCoC staff - all of you - for picking up my slack while I've been relatively inactive the last few months. Thank you for maintaining the quality people have come to know and love from our site. I never had to worry that quality would drop off - you're all hilarious, fantastic, smart writers and I genuinely believe we have the best staff of any site on SBNation Hockey. Especially, thank you to Cornelius. I honestly would not be stepping down if I didn't feel entirely secure that someone as capable as you were taking over the site - this thing is my baby, and it's in great hands now.

So - thanks everyone, and that's it! While I'm not writing, you can always find me in the drift! on twitter at @sarah_connors. I'm always ready to yell about pretty much anything in short-form.

See you around!
