Alexander Khokhlachev, lucky number seven

Vote for number 8 today!

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports
  • Position: C
  • Height: 5’11"
  • Weight: 184
  • League last year: AHL
  • Age this year: 21
  • Acquired: 2011 draft, second round

Reminder: Alexander Khokhlachev has not been traded back to Russia and he won’t be leaving the Bruins organization for at least a year.

Because of the Bruins’ wealth of centers, however, Koko may have trouble breaking into the team unless he is willing to transition to the wing. Khokhlachev was recently named Boston’s top prospect entering the 2015-2016 campaign by ESPN.

He led the Providence Bruins in points (57) and assists (36) during the 2013-2014 season, but he struggled to maintain offensive consistency last season.  On the other hand, he has a high skill level and is good at slowing down the pace of play to create chances, illustrated by his high number of shots on goal the past two seasons in the AHL.

Additionally, he seems to flourish during the postseason.  During the 2014 Calder Cup playoffs, he carried the P-Bruins to game seven of the Eastern Conference semifinals, scoring nine goals in 12 games, including two game-winners.  In a shorter 2015 postseason, he notched two goals in five games.

Koko remains calm under pressure, as we saw during his time with the Bruins last season.  Although he’s only played four games in the NHL, he gave the Bruins one of their few shootout victories last season with this snipe:
