[Ed. Note: I admit that I was a little surprised to see Jesse Gabrielle get so many votes yesterday, as he had barely gotten any before. Indeed, here's how the voting went:

Vote: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Jesse Gabrielle 1 0 1 0 0 0 1 48

Sort of fishy. So, hello to the Jesse Gabrielle fans out there. Congratulations, you've rigged the poll. Let's get on with the profile, shall we?]

Jesse Gabrielle's got some exciting intangibles. In a profile on NHL.com, he listed Brad Marchand as his favorite player and the Bruins as his favorite team. Unfortunately, his offensive numbers are less-than-good, which is why he was picked in the fourth round. In order for him to make the NHL, he will have to hope that his game transitions to the NHL, and not that he becomes the next Zac Rinaldo. There is a possibility that he steps up, of course. How often is it that the 116th highest scorer in the WHL becomes an NHL player? not that often. According to The Projection Project, he's got a better chance of being a bust than an NHL player:

But they also say that he compares (so far) to Tomas Plekanec, Tuomu Ruutu, Jordin Tootoo, Boyd Gordon....a whole host of NHL players. As a just-drafted player, he has the inside track to the NHL if his skill is great enough to take it.

I wouldn't go buying his jersey just yet, but you never know. Teams do need rotten little bastards that can skate, and maybe he can do that. He'll get a chance with the Prince George Cougars of the WHL this year.
