Daniel Paille agrees to PTO with Blackhawks

Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

Darren Dreger tweeted late Sunday night that former fourth-liner Daniel Paille will be headed to Blackhawks camp on a PTO. The team recently traded away Joakim Lindstrom and apparently there's hope he might be able to fill that role.

Whatever the case, the important take-away here is really this: how do Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell have honest-to-goodness NHL contracts, while Paille, whose penalty killing skills and speed are arguably more valuable to a team than anything Campbell or Thornton could contribute, can only manage a PTO?

The world may never know. Hopefully for him he can make it stick in Chicago. The Blackhawks are struggling with cap space issues, so he very well may be the answer for them in that spot. Nevertheless, he'll be missed here in Boston, whatever happens. Pretty hard to believe that the Bruins probably could have had him for the cost of Zac Rinaldo.
