Per Mike Morreale of NHL.com:
Luke Kunin of the U of Wisconsin named captain of U.S. national jr team. Charlie McAvoy of BU and Colin White of BC will be assistants.— Mike Morreale (@mikemorrealeNHL) December 18, 2016
The BU sophomore will be making his second World Junior Championships appearance later this month, having played in seven games in Team USA’s bronze medal run last year.
This will be the last year McAvoy will be eligible for the WJC, making him a GRIZZLED VETERAN on a squad of teenagers.
Team USA coaches have already praised McAvoy for his leadership, and the assignation of the “A” serves a further vote of confidence in the kid.
McAvoy currently has two goals and eleven assists in 17 games for the Terriers this season.
