Brianna Decker named NWHL player of the week

Decker's hat trick against the Connecticut Whale on Sunday earned her POTW honors for the second time this season.

The NWHL awarded Brianna Decker with her second Player of the Week nomination on Tuesday afternoon. Decker joins the Buffalo Beauts' Kelley Steadman as the only players who have received the honor twice.

Decker has been one of the Pride's leading offensive forces all season as a member of the league's most productive line. So far she has tallied 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) and trails only co-captain Hilary Knight in those categories on the league leaderboards. Alongside Knight and Jordan Smelker, the three have combined for 75 total points this season, which is possibly more than the Riveters have as a whole team. This is the sixth time on the season that a Pride player has been named player of the week. Last week, Smelker received the honor for scoring two goals against the Whale on Valentine's Day. Knight, Jillian Dempsey, and Zoe Hickel round out the list of The Pack's previous honorees.

Decker's hat trick on Sunday, her second of the season, led the Pride to a crucial 5-3 victory over the Whale as they clinched the #1 seed in the league heading into the playoffs. She is the only player in the league to score two hat tricks this season and had the league's first-ever back on October 25 against Buffalo.
