The Bruins acquired Lee Stempniak after 3PM today in exchange for a second round pick and a fourth. Stempniak, who did indeed attend Bruins camp on a PTO and whom we could have had ALL ALONG, was picked up by the Devils after attending camp. Upon being traded, he was leading the Devils in points with 16 goals and 25 assists for 41 points total; their leading scorer is now Kyle Palmieri, with 40 points. (The Devils are bad.) Stempniak's 16 goals puts him at fourth on the Bruins; his points total puts him as sixth, one behind Ryan Spooner.
So that's four picks and a useless AHLer for J-M Liles and Lee Stempniak, and Frank Vatrano and Colin Miller will probably be in the AHL for the long run at this point. #cool. Considering the Bruins could have had Stempniak for free at the start of the season, wasting a second rounder on him does not exactly make this Don Sweeney's finest hour.
