The Bruins have once again called up LW Frank Vatrano from Providence. Deja vu all over again.
This time, though, he's accompanied on the drive up 95 by goaltender Jeremy Smith. Smith spent the early part of this season in Iowa on loan to the AHL club there before being brought back to Providence when Malcolm Subban got hurt; since returning, he's made 11 starts, and holds a 7-3-1 record with the P-Bruins, along with a 0.932 sv%.
Why are the Bruins calling up a goaltender? Looks like we might have an answer from Amalie Benjamin:
Jonas Gustavsson and Jeremy Smith (emergency recall) on the ice for the Bruins. No Tuukka Rask yet.— Amalie Benjamin (@AmalieBenjamin) March 22, 2016
They're on the road in New York tomorrow, then back home for one game before launching on a four-game road trip, so if there are no injuries the timing of this is odd at best. Here's hoping if something's wrong with Tuukka that it's very minor.
