Three College Hockey Free Agents For the Bruins to Watch

Vatrano 2.0?

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

As the season to sign college free agents commences, the Bruins will certainly be busy. After loading up last season (Frank Vatrano, Noel Acciari have both received minutes on the Bruins after being signed last season), Don Sweeney was willing to trade draft picks because of the team's ability to capitalize on college talent. As the season begins to wind down, expect the Bruins to remain active and potentially grab multiple players at the deadline.

Who Could the Bruins Sign?

Carter Foguth, Defense, Minnesota State

The captain of the Mustangs, Foguth is a natural born leader on and off the ice. He shows younger players how to act with his hard work and dedication to learning the game. Foguth blocks shots incredibly well and isn't afraid to get in there and win battles for pucks. He is capable of transitioning out of the defensive zone well and distributes the puck to his outlets admirably. Foguth best fits the Bruins' defensive model best out of any of the eligible NCAA free agents.

Patrick Russell, RW, St. Cloud State

Russell, a Danish winger with good size, has made great strides in his second season in St. Cloud. He has 38 points in 37 games for a surging Blizzards team who he is a top five team in the country.  Russell is a power forward who loves to go hard to the net and attempt to screen the goaltender. He is unafraid to fire the puck on net, no matter what the angle. Russell could bring energy, grit, and potential scoring to the bottom six in Boston.

Brandon Tanev

Fresh off of capturing a title during his junior campaign, Tanev (the younger brother of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev) has played admirably during his senior season. A two way forward with a knack for scoring, Tanev's shot is often times underestimated. He understands the game well, possesses good speed, and moves the puck at a high level. Tanev will be a sought after commodity and will commend big bucks in the market, as he is truly a complete player.
