Short Midwest Road Trip Will Define the Bruins' Season

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Bruins are only one point up on the stumbling Detroit Red Wings for the third spot in the Atlantic Division, and after losing six of their last seven, are attempting to hand Detroit the keys to the playoffs.

With five games remaining in the regular season, can the Bruins hang on and qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

Before ending the season with a trio of home contests, the Bruins travel to St. Louis and Chicago to face off against two of the top teams in the Western Conference.

The Bruins are currently enduring a ruthless scoring drought, only totaling ten goals in their last seven games. The Blues are fourth in goals allowed per game, and also boast terrific special teams. The Blackhawks are also skidding of late, but have all the pieces to win the Stanley Cup AGAIN. In short, if the Bruins put forth an effort like the past few games, they will return to Boston scratching their heads with zero points.

As the Bruins limp to the finish of the regular season, one can only be reminded of last season, where the Black and Gold sputtered down the stretch and were eliminated from the playoffs.

Let's hope this won't be deja vu.
