The Boston Pride took their first step towards next season on Wednesday as General Manager Hayley Moore announced the re-signing of forward Jordan Smelker.
“Jordan is a consistent offensive force on the ice,” she said in a press release. “Her strength and speed fit well into our style of play, and her work ethic makes her very well-respected by her teammates. We are happy to welcome Jordan back to the pack!”
“I couldn't be happier to sign on for another year with the Pride,” Smelker said, and referred to the Pride as "a special team to be a part of."
During 2015's championship season, Smelker scored 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 17 regular season games and had two assists in the postseason. She played on the same line as Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker, which was the most productive line in the NWHL last season. They combined for an astounding total of 101 points in all contests. After making $16,000 last season, Smelker and the Pride agreed to a $14,000 salary for the 2016. Considering her high level of production and her ability to combine with Knight and Decker, this seems peculiar, but perhaps it's an indication of bigger signings to come in the near future. With only 10 days to go until free agency begins, we certainly hope that's the case...
Who do you think will re-sign with the Pride next?
