Several rounds pass, and the Bruins draft a LARGE finnish guy 135th overall.
Okay, you want more than that, obviously.
Joona Koppanen is ranked 27th in NHL central scouting, and was a key part of the Ilves U20 system. Scouts and fans were impressed with his defensive skill and his hockey sense. Most notably, he was a fantastic Penalty Killer and showed awareness and strong positioning to help his decision making with the puck. His shot is unremarkable, but it's more or less all of the areas in his game where he's allowed to shut down the opponent's offense that allow him to compensate for it. And apparently Finland's hockey program itself sees that as valuable, because he was part of a championship team in the U18 World Championships, and on Ilves U20 team.
There aren't any projections out on him yet, but from description, one could assume they're grooming the next cageface from this young guy?
Either way, here are his stats:
Welcome to Boston, Joona!
