Bruins vs. Predators 1/12/17 PREVIEW: Smash Nashville

Nashville’s having the same trouble Boston had with goalscoring, can the B’s take advantage and get an even higher point lead?

NHL: Boston Bruins at Nashville Predators Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Just the Facts:

The Time: 8pm EST

The Place: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee

The Place to Watch: NESN, SN-O, TVAS, Fox Sports Tennessee

The Place to Listen: 98.5 The Sports Hub, WPRT-FM (Preds)

The Stakes: Two points puts Boston five points ahead of Ottawa and seven away from Toronto, while Toronto and Ottawa are on break. The Pens play Ottawa tonight so hope for a phil kessel hat trick or something so boston can have a stranglehold on the division for the time being.

Game Notes:

  • This is the first meeting this season between Boston and Nashville. Their next game is in Boston on the 28th of March. So uh...yeah, expect to forget about this game regardless of outcome.
  • Boston’s possession leaders last game were Ryan Spooner, David Backes, Frank Vatrano, David Krejci, and David Pastrnak.
  • Nashville kind of had to win their game against the Canucks on accident. Boston, in spite of what some of the angry callers on 98.5 might have you believe, is a much better team than Vancouver.
  • The Preds are 4-4-2 in their last 10. Kind of an up and down year for them so it’s perfectly emblematic. And hey! They won their last game and Pekka had a good SV% so they’re just about due to completely shit the bed!
  • Pekka Rinne has been sort of off-and-on for most of the year but especially in December where he decided to put on a redefining of the term “sieve”. That said, his wild swings in whether or not he’s good means he’s currently putting up a .919 SV% and that has some generous outliers to create that.
  • The Preds will be without PK Subban, James Neal, and Miikka Salomaki tonight

Never 4get:

At one point:

  • Tim Thomas’ gear was gold, and he could give up real brain-dead goals
  • Steve Begin was a thing
  • Brad’s last name was “Mar-shond”
