Bruins vs Flyers 1/14/17 Recap: A Massive 6-3 Victory

With a 9-10-0 record at home coming into this afternoon, the Bruins knew that they needed to be better in their own rink. Boy, did they step up in a big way. Cue the highlights!

First Period

After going down 1-0 on a Pierre-Edouard Bellemare goal, Brad Marchand got a shorthanded breakaway and used some magic to get the puck in the net.

Second Period

Then, the offense came to life. Thanks to a stellar keep at the blue line by Austin Czarnik on the power play, David Krejci scored, grabbing his 500th NHL point.

Torey Krug drove hard to the net and tipped this Marchand pass to increase the lead to two. He has 3 goals and 11 assists in his last 11 games, so he’s turning on the jets.

Right after Brayden Schenn scored a power play goal, Kevan Miller got absolutely rocked by Jakub Voracek behind the goal line. He did not return from an upper body injury, as it was classified. It was the shoulder he had surgery on that drove into the glass, so we can only wonder what happened.

The major penalty that ensued was not for naught for the Bruins, as Patrice Bergeron caught a lucky tip from Andrew MacDonald, skipping the puck up to the top of the twine.

The captain got into the act too, taking a long pass from David Pastrnak and slapping one home. What tremendous vision by Pasta to make the pass and Zee’s rocket wreaks its havoc.

Third Period

Wayne Simmonds ended the last period with a power play goal, but Brad Marchand’s empty netter sealed the Flyers fate.

With that goal, he finished up a five point game, the first time a Bruins player has done that multiple times in a season since a former long-haired captain wore the Black and Gold.

The B’s next game is another matinee on Monday at home against the Islanders.
