As the All-Star Game descends on us once again, the NHL released the events the players will be heading up for the skills competition, and Marshy will be appearing in two of them!

The Time, Place, etc.:

Time: 7pm EST

Place: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

TV: NBCSN, CBC, Sportsnet, TVAS

The Stakes:

Winning the Skills Competition will earn the right to select both their first opponent and when their semi-final matchup will be played; first or second at Sunday’s All-Star Game (3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT)...We think. The email is sort of hazy on whether or not the skills competition as a whole or the shootout competition is the deciding factor.

The Events:

First, he will be in the Fastest Skater competition against Cam Atkinson. The aim in the fastest skater is...well...skate faster than the other guy. The “track” is half the NHL standard rink cut lengthwise. Whoever’s faster wins the competition and a point for his team. At the end of the head-to-head matchups, the fastest skater among them will skate a full lap around the perimeter of the rink in any direction they chose in order to hopefully break Dylan Larkin’s record.

Fastest Skater Matchups:

EAST

Brad Marchand vs. Cam Atkinson

Nikita Kucherov vs. Taylor Hall

WEST

Vlad Tarasenko vs. Bo Horvat

Nathan MacKinnon vs. Connor McJesus McDavid

The scoring system:

Points Available: 6 – The winner of each match-up scores one point; the team with the fastest skater scores a bonus point; if the fastest skater is successful in breaking Dylan Larkin’s record of 13.172 seconds, an additional bonus point will be awarded to his team.

Next, Brad will be part of the Challenge Relay, a multi-man team effort. This is a timed relay with seven skaters and one goalie that consists of four relays with five challenges attached: One timers, Passing, Puck Control, Stick-handling, and Goalie Goals.

The lines for the Atlantic vs the Metro division:

One Timers: Karlsson, Okposo, Trocheck, w/ Victor Hedman passing the puck vs. Seth Jones, Ovechkin, and Wayne Simmonds, with Ryan McDonagh passing the puck

Passing: Frans Nielson vs. John Tavares

Puck Control: Brad Marchand vs. Justin Faulk

Stick Handling: Auston Matthews vs. Sidney Crosby

Goalie Goals: Carey Price vs. Braden Holtby

The scoring system:

Points Available: 3 - The team with the fastest time in each heat scores one point; the team with the fastest overall time scores one bonus point.

And of course, Brad will also be playing on the Atlantic Division All-Star team at the All-Star game on Sunday. Wish the man luck!

What will Tuukka be doing?:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In all seriousness, some of the challenges may call for a goalie. Maybe Rask will be one of them? He might play the opening round of the ASG, but he might just be pulling backup duty.
