Why is Charlie McAvoy cleaning up after David Backes’ dog?

It turns out the actions of a group of Terriers put Charlie on dog duty...

David Backes and Charlie McAvoy are both Americans who played NCAA hockey prior to turning pro.

Backes played for Minnesota State, while McAvoy played at Boston University.

Unsurprisingly, these two guys are proud of their alma maters. And wouldn’t you know it — they were scheduled to face each other this past weekend.

The veteran Backes apparently saw this as an opportunity to make a friendly wager with the rookie.

Minnesota State ended up sweeping the Terriers, winning 6-3 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.

That meant dog duty for the kid. Backes even had video proof:

Good on the kid for honoring his bet, and good on Backes for a little good-natured razzing of the rookie.

Next year, McAvoy better hope his Terriers don’t let him down.
